The Full Moon Party

After a nice boat trip back to mainland from the Phi Phi, we jumped in the bus and had a good 5 hours bus trip to the other side of Thailand and the Kom Phang Nang Island boat.

preparing for the Full Moon

Or in other words, the Full Moon Party Island. Yes, this is the legendary place to go to if you want to party all night long and until sunrise, with about 10 000 other young, drunk people. Just what I had in mind!

But the place haves some issues. Number one is that when 10 000 people settles in to a small Island just for about 1 week, the prices jumps to the roof, so NOT a cheap place to live. And issue number two, theft! What happened when Ipod dressed rich kids from the west leaves everything in small, paper-walled bungalows and stays up all night drunk ass hell? Well, the buggy man pays a visit, and all of a sudden, you are standing in your bungalow, still over the top drunk, with no Ipod, no money, no clothes and no backpack. I was lucky not to experience this, but many others weren’t.

The full moon night came, and we were ready to give our livers a good night works with over-consumption of alcohol and red bull. The party starts about 22 in the evening, but most people are drunk long before this, and you basically head down to the beach and start drinking buckets, and the rest comes naturally. The buckets are famous in these areas, made of ½ l local rum called Sang Som, one can coke, and one bottle red bull; strong and anti-tiring.

The beach area is huge, with all type of trance and dance music, from the classic old school prodigy to new things straight from the vinyl press.

Its really hard for me to express trough words how awesome this experience is, but I hope the pictures can give you a small insight in the feel and atmosphere of this Grande party, and the fact that I didn’t go to bed before 8 o’clock in the evening, the day after, should give you a hint that this is something you should experience, at least once!! You meet so many people here, under, before and after the party, and no, (lot of people that haven’t been here have asked me about this) this is not a huge drug party and everybody is high, most of the people here are like me, just a traveler that want to see what this is, have fun and have a drink. So get down here guys and feel this!!

Morning glory is coming

The day after, no one have slept yet, but some of the guys had to leave.

It took me 2 days to get back on track after the full moon, it was hard but it was worth it. I felt it was about time to stop running around on beaches and have fun the whole time, and get serious about being a traveler. The answer: Bangkok!
